Road to the European Universities Games Salerno 2026 | The EUSA Supervision Commission at University of Salerno

Four months before the start, the intense teamwork continues on the road to the European Universities Games Salerno 2026 (EUG 2026). The event promoted by EUSA (European University Sports Association) is scheduled for July 18 to August 1, 2026, between the two campuses of the University of Salerno – Fisciano and Baronissi – and the city of Salerno, with its surrounding territory.

Salerno, for this 8th edition of the EUSA Games, will host around 4000 participants, including student-athletes and officials, from around 400 universities representing almost 40 European Countries. The event will involve 13 sports and will be organised by the University of Salerno, University Sports Centre CUS Salerno, Adisurc (Campania Region Agency for the Right to Education), with the contribution of the Campania Region and the support of the Italian University Sport Federation (FederCUSI).
The event is an opportunity to further strengthen the bond between sport and university, in an international dimension.

On Monday, March 9, the EUSA Supervision Commission met with the University of Salerno’s working group at the Fisciano campus, for a focus on the organisation, hospitality, spaces, and facilities involved in the 2026 Games.

The Rectorate’s Meeting Room brought together for the EUSA delegation, President Haris Pavletic, Honorary President Adam Roczek, Secretary General / CEO Matjaz Pecovnik, Treasurer Francis Cirianni, Director of Sports Events Liam Smith, Director of Education & Operations Sara Rozman, Sports Manager Miha Zvan, and Head of Media & Communications Salvatore Sisca.

The University of Salerno was represented by the Director General Gianluca Basile, the University Delegate for Sport Francesco Paolo Adorno, President of CUS Salerno, Lorenzo Lentini, and the entire coordination, technical, and administrative staff overseeing the organisation of this special summer event.
After the Rector Virgilio D’Antonio welcomed the EUSA delegation, the meeting officially opened, divided into five thematic focus areas and aimed at analysing the current state of the organisation and defining the next steps.

Regarding the Sports Venues, the map of all sports courts, halls and pitches that will host the competitions was confirmed and analysed: all venues are distributed across the city of Salerno and its surroundings, but especially concentrated in the two campuses, which will create a great atmosphere and experience for all the participants.

On the topic of Hospitality, all accommodations hosting the participants, referees, guests and EUSA Family were listed and analysed, starting with all the “UniSA” residences and adding several other accommodation facilities adjacent to the university campuses.

Ceremonies and protocol area saw the presentation of the concepts for the opening and closing events, which will be held in the two very important squares: Piazza Libertà in Salerno city centre on the seaside, and Piazza del Sapere in the heart of the Fisciano Campus: an ideal link and connection between the city and its university. These two major happenings will be accompanied by a program of official receptions and daily social events – spread throughout the University’s surrounding area – designed to provide opportunities for socialising and promoting the area’s beauty, during the entire two weeks of the Games.

Regarding Volunteers, the Engagement Plan was presented. Volunteers will provide operational support for the event, covering reception activities, competitions, logistics and ceremonies, with a particular focus on assisting delegations upon their arrival at the University. The volunteers, organised into Area Managers, Campus Team Leaders, Team Leaders for Local Facilities, and Group Managers, will provide essential support in coordinating activities between the two campuses and the wider community.

Lastly, an updated Media plan for pre- and post-event Communications Activities was presented, with particular attention to the harmonious use of all official communication and channels of the event and partners, to enhance the online and offline storytelling of the event at every stage.

Approaching the EUG 2026, a few more meetings are ahead, but the next important appointment is scheduled for May 12 and 13, when NUSA Coordination Meeting will take place in Salerno, with all NUSAs and Head of Delegations visiting all the upcoming big event venues, to learn everything about the European Universities Games 2026.
